The Case of the Lorry and the Flint Wall

Mr N owned a Georgian property, which was surrounded by a flint boundary wall. The wall had a slight over hang, where over the years since it was built it leant out.

Despite standing the test of time for many years, one afternoon the exterior side of the flint wall was hit by lorry passing by.

Mr N duly called his insurance company, keen to resolve the matter as soon as possible. The insurance company's response was that the damage to the wall was in fact a maintenance issue and not something that was covered by his insurance.

How our loss assessors resolved the claim

Mr N contacted AKA MI Claims, and sure enough his claim was covered. In the first instance, after AKA MI Claims got involved, his insurance company offered to settle £1,600 for the damages. However, AKA MI Claims insisted that from the damaged sustained this would not be nearly enough to cover the repairs and finally the insurance company paid out.

The total claim came to £15,000.
